When we traveled to New York to see family, we often saw travelers by the side of the road filling containers with water from a pipe that jutted out of the mountainside. The water came from a pure underground stream and always flowed, even in the winter.
Hubby tells me that Jerry Tejkl used to get water down near Fayette where a pipe came out of the ground from an artesian well. That water also flows all of the time.

There is nothing more refreshing than a tall, cold glass of clean water. Water is essential for life. Dealing with the world and even with other Christians can leave a man emotionally and spiritually dehydrated. I checked Healthline.com for symptoms of dehydration. They include:

Did you know that people can die of dehydration?  “Dehydration will cause dizziness and disorientation. Eventually your organs will shut down and you will die. After drowning, dehydration is the primary cause of death of people that are lost a sea. People that are trapped often die of dehydration” (http://wiki.answers.com).

Does your husband show signs of emotional or spiritual dehydration?  God designed Eve for a specific purpose-to be a help fit for Adam. Being an Eve to an Adam is the highest privilege a woman has. We can help a husband by being a fountain of refreshment to him. We do this first by praying. Pray for your husband (and children) like you are the only one praying.

Solomon compared his bride to a refreshing fountain in Song of Solomon 4:15.
The note in Life Application Bible says, “Solomon’s bride was as refreshing to him as a fountain. Could your spouse say the same about you? Sometimes the familiarity that comes with marriage causes us to forget the overwhelming feelings of love and refreshment we shared at the beginning. Many marriages could use a course in refreshing. Do you refresh your spouse or are you a burden of complaints, sorrows and problems? Partners should continually work at refreshing each other by an encouraging word, and unexpected gift, a change of pace, a surprise call or note or even withholding a discussion of some problems until the proper time. Your spouse needs you to be a haven of refreshment because the rest of the world usually isn’t.”

Husband, children and friends-the whole world needs refreshing. For an interesting study note how Paul used the word “refresh” six times (Rom. 15:32; I Cor. 16:18; 2 Cor. 7:13; 2 Tim. 1:16; Philemon 1:7, 20). The Proverbs 31 woman stretched out her hands to the poor and the needy (Proverbs 31:20).

If we find our refreshment in God each day and let His love flow through us like a life-giving fountain, we will refresh the hearts of many, and be refreshed ourselves.

Fountain or cistern-how would your husband describe you? Any thirsty man is happy to drink from a clean fountain of water, but only one dying of thirst wants to drink out of a scummy cistern, green with slime.
Both the little house next door where we used to live, and this house, have cisterns right outside the door. They are a danger to small children or animals. The cover of our cistern was cracked and partially missing. The water we could see stunk, and we had no idea how deep it was.  No one suggested tasting the water. We filled the cistern with shingles from the roof any other debris we could find. (We apologize to Green Peace. That was before the days that “green” meant anything but a color.)
